THE BIG PICTURE: 2 MARKS, 2 BOOKS, 2 DESTINIES
Contrast from Torah to Revelation:
1. Mark of the Beast on hand or forehead [Rev 13:16] = Counterfeit of Deut 6:8 “bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes”
2. Name of the Father on foreheads [Rev 14:1, 22:4] = Fulfillment of Ezek 9:4 “put a mark on the foreheads of the men who sigh and groan over all the abominations”
2 Books: Lamb’s Book of Life [Rev 13:8, 20:15, Dan 12:1] vs followers of the beast
2 Worships: Worship the Creator [Rev 14:7, Ex 20:11] vs Worship the Beast [Rev 13:4, Dan 3:5] 2 Outcomes: Eternal life [Dan 12:2, Rev 21:3] vs Everlasting contempt [Dan 12:2, Rev 14:11]
The Mark is the final test of who owns you [1 Cor 6:19-20].
1. WHO WILL WORSHIP THE BEAST? — THE HEART ISSUE
Rev 13:8 “...all whose names have not been written in the Lamb's book of life...”
Cross-ref: Ex 32:32-33 “blot me out of your book... Whoever has sinned against me, I will blot out of my book.” Phil 4:3 “whose names are in the book of life.”
2 Thess 2:10-11 “...they refused to love the truth... Therefore GOD sends them a strong delusion”
Cross-ref: Rom 1:24-25 “GOD gave them up to worship and serve the creature rather than the Creator.”
Idolatry starts in the heart [Ezek 14:3, Col 3:5 “covetousness, which is idolatry”]. The world already worships money [Matt 6:24], comfort [2 Tim 3:4], and men [Acts 12:22]. Protection: “Rejoice that your names are written in heaven” [Luke 10:20]. Washed by blood [Rev 7:14, 1 John 1:7], sealed by Spirit [Eph 1:13, 4:30].
2. THE BEAST WILL MAKE WAR WITH THE SAINTS — PERSECUTION IS PROMISED
Rev 13:7 “...to make war with the saints and to conquer them”
Cross-ref: Dan 7:21 “this horn made war with the saints and prevailed over them” Dan 7:25 “wear out the saints of the Most High.”
John 15:20 “If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you.” 2 Tim 3:12 “all who desire to live godly in CHRIST JESUS will be persecuted.”
“Conquer” in the world’s eyes. In heaven’s eyes, they overcome [Rev 12:11 “by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony”].
Protection: “Do not fear what you are about to suffer” [Rev 2:10]. “Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of His saints” [Ps 116:15].
3. SOME WILL BE MARTYRED — SOVEREIGNTY AND FAITHFULNESS
Rev 13:10 “This calls for patient endurance and faithfulness”
Cross-ref: Rev 6:9-11 “souls of those who had been slain for the word of GOD... How long...?”
Review 20:4 “souls of those who had been beheaded for the testimony of JESUS.”
Heb 11:35-38 “others were tortured... they wandered in deserts and mountains.”
GOD measures the cup [Rev 18:6, Ps 75:8]. Like Stephen [Acts 7:59-60] and Antipas [Rev 2:13].
Protection: “Fear not those who kill the body” [Matt 10:28]. “Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life” [Rev 2:10]. “To live is CHRIST, to die is gain” [Phil 1:21].
4. SOME WILL ESCAPE — PRAY, WATCH, OBEY
Luke 21:36 “pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape”
Cross-ref: Rev 3:10 “I will keep you from the hour of trial” Ps 91:1-7 “He who dwells in the secret place...”
Matt 24:13 “But the one who endures to the end will be saved.”
Escape pattern: Noah in the ark [Gen 7], Lot out of Sodom [Gen 19], Israel through the Red Sea [Ex 14].
GOD makes a way THROUGH. “Worthy” = walking in obedience now [Col 1:10, 1 John 2:6].
Protection: “Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation” [Matt 26:41]. “The prayer of a righteous person has great power” [James 5:16].
5. ALL FAITHFUL ARE CALLED TO ENDURE — THE 2 MARKS OF THE SAINTS
Rev 14:12 “who keep the commands of GOD and hold to the faith of JESUS”
Cross-ref: 1 John 2:3-4 “by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments.” John 14:15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.”
Heb 10:36 “you need endurance, so that when you have done the will of GOD you may receive what is promised.”
End-time church defined. Not by size, but by obedience + faith. Hupomonē = endurance under trial [James 1:3-4].
Protection: New heart [Ezek 36:26-27 “cause you to walk in my statutes”]. Spirit writes Law on hearts [Jer 31:33, Heb 8:10].
6. IF YOU REFUSE TO WORSHIP THE BEAST — THE FURNACE TEST
Rev 13:15 “...cause those who would not worship the image to be killed.”
Cross-ref: Dan 3:5-6, 16-18 “But even if He does not... we will not serve your gods.” Acts 5:29 “We must obey GOD rather than men.”
This is Daniel 3 global. The image speaks [Rev 13:15] like the golden image. No compromise. GOD looks at the knee [Rom 14:11, Phil 2:10].
Protection: “When they deliver you over, do not be anxious... for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit” [Matt 10:19-20]. GOD is in the fire [Dan 3:25].
7. IF YOU REFUSE THE MARK — THE ECONOMIC SIEGE
Rev 13:16-17 “no one can buy or sell unless he has the mark”
Cross-ref: Matt 6:25-33 “Seek first the kingdom... and all these things will be added.” Phil 4:19 “my GOD will supply every need.”
Rev 12:6, 14 “the woman fled into the wilderness... where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time.”
Economic pressure. But GOD’s history: Manna [Ex 16:4], Ravens [1 Kings 17:4], Widow’s oil [2 Kings 4], 5000 fed [John 6:11].
Protection: “Do not lay up treasures on earth” [Matt 6:19]. Community [Acts 2:44-45]. Trust Jehovah Jireh [Gen 22:14].
8. IF YOU RECEIVE THE MARK, YOU WILL BE DECEIVED — SIGNS AND LIES
Rev 19:20 “the false prophet who... deceived those who had received the mark”
Cross-ref: 2 Thess 2:9-10 “with all power and false signs and wonders, and with all wicked deception”
Matt 24:24 “false christs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs... to mislead, if possible, the elect.”
1 Kings 22:22 “a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.”
The Mark comes packaged as peace and safety [1 Thess 5:3]. Religious deception [2 Cor 11:14-15 “Satan disguises himself as an angel of light”].
Protection: “Test everything; hold fast what is good” [1 Thess 5:21]. “To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, there is no light in them” [Isa 8:20].
9. THOSE WHO RECEIVE WILL BE PUNISHED — GOD’S FINAL WARNING
Rev 14:9-11 “...drink the wine of God's fury... tormented with fire and sulfur... no rest day or night”
Cross-ref: Ps 75:8 “the LORD has a cup... full of foaming wine mixed with spices; He pours it out” Isa 34:10 “smoke shall go up forever.” Heb 10:26-27 “if we go on sinning deliberately... a fearful expectation of judgment.”
Why so severe? It’s willful, final rejection of the Lamb [Heb 6:4-6, 10:29]. The 3 angels [Rev 14:6-12] are the last warning BEFORE bowls of wrath [Rev 15-16].
There is NO verse offering repentance after the Mark. GOD SAID NO.
Contrast: “Come to me and I will give you rest” [Matt 11:28] vs “no rest day or night.”
10. SATAN, THE BEAST, AND FALSE PROPHET JUDGED — THE END
Rev 20:10 “thrown into the lake of fire... tormented forever”
Cross-ref: Rev 19:20 “beast and false prophet thrown alive into lake of fire” Isa 24:21-22 “LORD will punish the host of heaven.”
Then: Rev 21:1-4 “new heaven and new earth... He will wipe away every tear” Rev 22:5 “they will reign forever and ever.”
Justice And Restoration Those who overcame reign [Rev 3:21, 20:4]. “The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our LORD” [Rev 11:15].
ADDRESSING THE CONTRAST DIRECTLY
Image says: “Can you still be redeemed if you take the mark? YES. YES!”
GOD’S WORD: Rev 14:9-11 “If anyone worships the beast and receives his mark... he will drink the wine of God's wrath... THERE IS NO REST.”
Num 23:19 “GOD is not man, that He should lie.”
Rom 3:4 “Let GOD be true though every man be a liar.”
Grace warns [Titus 2:11-12]. Grace does not lie to us.
HOW TO PREPARE NOW: 7 PRACTICAL STEPS WITH SCRIPTURE
1. Be Sealed: “sealed with the Holy Spirit” [Eph 1:13]. “grieve not the Holy Spirit” [Eph 4:30]. Daily repentance [1 John 1:9].
2. Know the Word: “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge” [Hos 4:6]. “Hide Your word in my heart” [Ps 119:11].
3. Practice Obedience Now: “who keep the commands of GOD” [Rev 14:12]. “little is much if GOD is in it” [Zech 4:10]. Train now [Heb 5:14].
4. Watch and Pray: [Luke 21:36]. “the end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for prayer” [1 Pet 4:7].
5. Detach from the System: “Come out of her, my people” [Rev 18:4]. “friendship with the world is enmity with GOD” [James 4:4].
6. Build Faith Community: “not neglecting to meet together” [Heb 10:25]. “bear one another’s burdens” [Gal 6:2]. Wilderness provision [Rev 12:6].
7. Love Not Your Life: [Rev 12:11]. “Whoever loses his life for my sake will find it” [Matt 16:25]. Rehearse surrender daily [Rom 12:1].
CONCLUSION: THE CALL TO OVERCOMERS
Rev 15:2 “those who had conquered the beast... standing beside the sea of glass with harps of GOD.”
Rev 17:14 “they will make war on the Lamb, and the Lamb will conquer them, for He is Lord of lords... and those with Him are called and chosen and faithful.”
1 Cor 15:57 “But thanks be to GOD, who gives us the victory through our LORD JESUS CHRIST.”
Choose today [Josh 24:15, Deut 30:19]. The Mark is worship. Give your worship to the Lamb alone [Rev 5:12].
